Polysomnography (a sleep study) is a detailed examination that records brain waves, breathing, oxygen levels, heart rhythm and leg movements throughout the night during sleep. It provides information about sleep quality and breathing patterns.
Sleep is recorded throughout the night using small sensors placed on the skin and body. The procedure is painless and involves no incision. You are asked to sleep as naturally as possible.
It is planned when the physician deems it appropriate for people in whom sleep apnea or a sleep disorder is suspected.
The recordings are interpreted by a specialist. If sleep apnea is detected, appropriate device (PAP) therapy and lifestyle adjustments may be considered. Follow-up is individual.
